Kolkata police are investigating the suspicious deaths of three family members, including a minor girl, found on February 19 amidst financial turmoil. Autopsy reports suggest foul play, ruling out suicide as initially suspected. Kolkata:
The Kolkata Police, investigating the case surrounding the mysterious deaths of three family members, including a young girl, on February 19, have discovered that the family was burdened with significant debts. Despite facing financial difficulties, they were reportedly living a luxurious lifestyle, sources indicated on Sunday.
The police are expected to take into custody the two hospitalized husbands of the deceased women once they are discharged from the hospital.
These men, Prasun De and Pranay Dey, who are biological brothers, are suspected of murdering their wives and the daughter of one of them on the morning of February 19, prior to attempting suicide.
However, their suicide attempt was thwarted when the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in a serious accident, necessitating their hospitalization.
The traffic department of Kolkata Police discovered the bodies of the two women and the minor during a visit to their residence in Tangra, located in the eastern outskirts of Kolkata, on the morning of February 19 while investigating the accident.
Suspicions regarding the two brothers’ involvement in the murders have arisen following autopsy reports, which have discounted the possibility of suicide, initially considered a theory.
Additionally, sources from the city police noted that an initial investigation revealed the Dey family operated a leather goods business and had accumulated large debts, which may have driven the brothers to take such an extreme action.
Further investigation and questioning of some of the family’s close associates revealed that, despite being in significant debt, the two brothers continued to indulge in a lavish lifestyle, exacerbating their financial troubles.
The suspected murder victims are Romi Dey and Sudeshna Dey. Romi is the wife of Prasun De, while the other woman is Pranay Dey’s spouse. The minor, Priyamvada Dey (14), is the daughter of Prasun and Romi.
According to city police sources, all CCTV cameras installed in the residence were turned off on the day of the murders.
