Deutsche Telekom unveiled more details about its AI Phone at MWC 2025, confirming it would launch in the second half of the year and expand to key European markets by 2026. The device, powered by Perplexity AI, will feature a custom Magenta AI operating system that replaces traditional apps with the Perplexity Assistant, allowing users to perform tasks through voice, typing, or camera input. The AI Phone aims to streamline smartphone functions like translation, appointment booking, and online shopping. It will also integrate with Google Cloud AI and other platforms, enhancing features in the MeinMagenta app available on Google Play.
Deutsche Telekom has unveiled more information regarding its AI Phone at MWC 2025. The parent company of T-Mobile had previously hinted at the AI Phone as a concept during last year’s MWC. We now have confirmation that the device will utilize Perplexity AI and is scheduled for an official launch in the latter half of this year, with plans for a rollout to major European markets in 2026.
The AI Phone will run on a custom Magenta AI operating system, replacing the conventional app-based user interface with Perplexity Assistant. This device supports multimodal input, allowing users to engage via voice, text requests, or by utilizing the cameras for searches.
The concept is that you can instruct the AI Phone to perform tasks typically done on a smartphone without switching between apps—such as translating text or speech, scheduling appointments, sending emails, or shopping online.
The AI Phone primarily relies on the Perplexity Assistant for task management. However, Deutsche Telekom has confirmed that the device will also integrate with Google Cloud AI, the Gemini Multimodal Live API, ElevenLabs, and Picsart during the summer. Additionally, Deutsche Telekom will incorporate AI functionalities within the MeinMagenta app, available on Google Play.
