Database indicates Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone will be released in just two countries.

Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold device, possibly named Galaxy G Fold, is expected to launch in late 2025 but may only be available in Korea and China, mirroring the limited release of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. The device, codenamed Q7M, is listed in the GSM Association’s database under model variants SM-F968N for Korea and SM-F9680 for China. Typically, Samsung devices appear in this database roughly 6-7 months prior to their release, suggesting a potential October launch. However, the production run will be small, leading to restricted availability in just these two markets.

The anticipated tri-fold device from Samsung (potentially named Galaxy G Fold) has been generating buzz this year, with a release now expected in late 2025. This is certainly encouraging news. However, the downside is that its availability may be restricted to only two countries.

We’ve experienced a similar situation before with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which was exclusively available in Korea and China last year. Coincidentally, these are also the two markets where the tri-fold is likely to be sold.

Samsung tri-fold smartphone in the GSM Association database

This information comes from the device’s entry in the GSM Association’s database, which currently lists only the SM-F968N and SM-F9680 variants. The “N” suffix indicates the model intended for Samsung’s home market, while the “0” suffix is meant for the Chinese version.

Recently revealed, the device’s codename is Q7M, and this appears in the database as the “market name,” which is an error. This might have been Samsung’s strategy to keep the device’s actual name under wraps, and it seems to have worked (unless it is indeed called Galaxy G Fold).

Typically, Samsung devices are entered into the GSM Association’s database about 6-7 months prior to their official launch. This suggests that the tri-fold smartphone could surface around October, but of course, this is not yet confirmed. What we do know is that it will have a very limited production run, which accounts for its restricted availability in just two markets.
