Canon has unveiled two new cameras designed specifically for vlogging: the compact PowerShot V1 and the mirrorless EOS R50 V.
PowerShot V1
The PowerShot V1 showcases a new design tailored for both standard and selfie shooting. It boasts a fixed 16-50mm f2.8-4.5 zoom lens, offering a field of view equivalent to 17-52mm for video (considering the extra crop). Equipped with a cutting-edge 22.3MP 1.4-type sensor combined with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, this camera also features a built-in cooling fan to facilitate extended video recording sessions. Users can utilize the camera for video calls and livestreaming through a USB connection with a PC, and it is also compatible with smartphones via the Canon Camera Connect app, both wired and wirelessly.
EOS R50 V
The next model, the EOS R50V, is also purpose-built for video, featuring a dedicated livestream button, a recording button located on the front, and a tripod screw hole positioned on the side for vertical recording. It utilizes the RF-mount, making it compatible with a wide range of Canon RF lenses, including the newly introduced RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ, notable for being the first RF-S lens with power zoom capabilities. This camera is powered by a 24MP APS-C sensor along with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and DIGIC X processor, enabling it to shoot video up to 4K at 60fps with a crop, supporting YCC 4:2:2 10-bit. Additionally, it includes Canon Log 3 support for seamless integration with Canon’s Cinema EOS lineup.
The Canon PowerShot V1 is priced at $900, while the EOS R50 V is priced at $650 for the body alone, or $850 bundled with the RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens. Both models will be available starting in April.
