Australian Content Creator Disproves Solo Journey in India

Australian content creator Bec McColl debunked myths about solo travel in India, calling her experience one of the best. She felt safe as a young female traveler, despite a minor “sketchy moment” at night. Contrary to expectations, the food wasn’t too spicy, and she enjoyed dishes like paneer and garlic naan without any health issues. McColl was also awed by India’s rich culture and history, highlighted by visits to monuments like the Taj Mahal. She reassured potential travelers that India is safe and inviting, encouraging them to look beyond stereotypes. She plans to explore more of the country on her next visit.

An Australian content creator has dispelled myths regarding solo travel in India, stating that her journey to the Asian nation was one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. Bec Mccoll, 24, expressed her eagerness to return. She shared various clips from her adventure, which included auto rickshaw rides, meeting locals, and exploring monuments.

She opened the video by saying, “I recently traveled to India as a young female traveler, and here are three things that genuinely surprised me. First, safety. I had heard that India was risky for young female travelers, but upon my arrival, I felt safe the whole time.”

She mentioned there was a “sketchy moment” at night when she felt a bit uneasy, but added that “it was also my fault for being out so late. Apart from that, I never felt unsafe.”

The second topic she discussed was food. Ms. Mccoll noted that she had been warned the food in India would be too spicy, but found it to be just right. “I was terrified of getting food poisoning, but guess what? That never happened. The food was delightful, particularly the vegetarian options. By the end, I was craving the spice,” she mentioned.

When a user in the comments asked about her favorite Indian dish, she responded, “It’s too hard to pick! I loved paneer, garlic naan, and kofta.”

Ms. Mccoll also shared her amazement at India’s rich culture and history. By posting clips of the Taj Mahal and Hawa Mahal, she said, “I had no idea how much history India possesses. There are ancient cities, UNESCO sites, and spectacular architecture dating back to the 13th century. It’s incredible how rich the culture and heritage are.”

An additional commenter suggested she explore locations beyond Delhi, Jaipur, the Golden Triangle, and the mountainous regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. She promised to visit these places on her next trip to India.

The creator wrapped up her video by stating that India is relatively safe, encouraging anyone considering a visit to disregard the rumors. “It’s not what the rumors suggest. It’s quite safe, flavorful, and steeped in history. What more could you want?” she concluded.

One user remarked, “Just share your genuine experience of India back in your country. People hold awful stereotypes of India, which prevents them from visiting. And yes, please come back.”

Another comment read, “You ate at regular restaurants; people often eat $0.20 meals and then get sick, blaming India while raking in millions of views with their reels.”

Someone else wrote, “Finally, a foreigner with a reasonable budget. Typically, foreigners visit India with a $2 budget and then start complaining.”

Earlier, an Irish-Persian vlogger, Sean Hammond, praised Delhi and motivated others to visit the city and appreciate its unique energy, despite its challenges. He expressed admiration for Delhi’s “colorful and vibrant” streets, food, and architecture, particularly Akshardham Temple.
