Android Automotive Receives More Than 70 New Applications, with Volvo and Polestar Leading the Way

Google has announced a major upgrade to Android Automotive, adding over 70 new apps, increasing the total to nearly 300. However, these newly added apps can only be used when the vehicle is stationary to prioritize driver safety. The expanded selection includes various categories like games and streaming services, featuring apps such as CTV News, NBC News, Red Bull TV, F1 TV, and Watcha. The update is currently available for Volvo and Polestar vehicles, with plans to roll it out to more vehicles in the coming weeks and months.

Google has just unveiled a significant upgrade to Android Automotive, introducing support for over 70 new applications. Previously, the native infotainment system platform from Google supported just under 200 apps, but with this new update, the total library now approaches 300. However, there’s an important limitation to note.

Nearly all of the newly added applications are restricted to use when the vehicle is not in motion. This is a safety precaution aimed at minimizing distractions for drivers.

The new apps cover a broad range of categories, including games and streaming services. Now you can access CTV News, NBC News, Red Bull TV, F1 TV, and Watcha.

The update is currently being rolled out to Volvo and Polestar vehicles, but Google has promised to broaden access to this latest version for more vehicles in the upcoming weeks and months.
