Bystanders intervened, preventing the situation from escalating into physical violence. The incident, described in a viral Reddit post, highlighted the need for caution when walking near traffic. Social media reactions varied, with some expressing outrage and offering safety advice, while others debated the nature of the driver’s behavior, questioning whether it constituted a scam.
A relaxed stroll after lunch in Gurugram turned into a frightening experience for three pedestrians when a motorist intentionally hit them with his car’s side mirror. According to a post on Reddit, an Ertiga approached from behind and purposely made contact with one of the pedestrians using its side mirror. The vehicle then moved ahead and came to a halt. At first, the pedestrians thought the driver had stopped to apologize. However, things escalated when the driver got out and began to verbally assault the group, throwing aggressive and offensive remarks their way. He accused them of damaging his mirror, unleashed insults, issued threats, and demanded money from them.
“Then the horror began— the driver exited the car and started yelling at everyone, ‘Tumhare baap ki road hai, mera shisha thodi diya’. He claimed that we hit his side mirror and that it was damaged. He was a tall, bulky local man. He continued to abuse and threaten us. Meanwhile, some bystanders and security guards from a nearby office arrived to try to calm things down, but he only grew more rude, threatening us that he would run us over the next time we were seen walking there and advised us to be cautious when leaving our office in the evening,” the user recounted.

Fortunately, the quick actions of bystanders and guards helped prevent the situation from escalating further, possibly protecting the pedestrians from a physical confrontation. The aggressive driver’s main goal seemed to be extortion, as he attempted to intimidate them into giving him money.
“I just wanted to warn you all to be cautious while walking on the roads. It’s our responsibility to ensure that vehicles from behind don’t hit us, and we must have people around us for support. God bless Gurgaon,” the user advised.
The post quickly gained traction, generating a variety of reactions from social media users, with some expressing anger and empathy, while others shared differing views on the incident. One user commented, “Don’t walk on the roads. Use the footpath. There are enough drivers, and you never know what mood they might be in.”
Another remarked, “How is this a scam, bro? He’s being pretty clear that he’s going to beat you up… Where’s the deception?” A third user suggested, “Only walk in the office premises; I do that because there’s a lot of open, green space there.”
A fourth user added, “Not a scam. Walking on the road with traffic coming from behind is simply reckless anyway. What if someone has a stroke or an MI while driving? How would you know that a car isn’t going to run you over?”
