Action Taken Against 140 Social Media Accounts for ‘Deceptive’ Content Regarding Maha Kumbh

Maha Kumbh Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna has confirmed that 13 FIRs have been lodged against 140 social media accounts for spreading false information. He assured that all necessary preparations have been made for the forthcoming Maha Shivratri festival on February 26, 2025.

“We have registered 13 FIRs against 140 social media handles that circulated misleading information… Over one crore people have taken a holy dip today,” Vaibhav Krishna stated in an interview with ANI.

“All arrangements for the upcoming Shivratri festival are complete… We will work diligently to prevent any traffic congestion in the Mahakumbh area. Everything needs to operate seamlessly… Regardless of the crowd size, we are thoroughly prepared,” he elaborated.

A significant number of devotees participated in the sacred dip at the holy Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on Sunday.

The information department of the Uttar Pradesh government reported that by Sunday, approximately 8.773 million individuals had performed the holy dip.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that 620 million devotees visited the Mahakumbh mela at Prayagraj. Meanwhile, the authorities overseeing the Mahakumbh Mela have enforced extensive crowd control measures at Ayodhya Dham Railway Station to maintain efficient management and safety.

A substantial influx of devotees is anticipated for the upcoming Maha Shivratri festival.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Yashwant Singh told ANI that devotees will only be allowed onto the platform upon the train’s arrival.

“We have heightened our alertness in preparation for the Mahakumbh ‘snan’ on Maha Shivratri. Additional security personnel have been deployed, bringing the total to over 350. Barricading has been set up all around, and a holding area has been established where passengers are being directed,” DSP Singh emphasized.

“We are making regular train announcements to keep everyone informed. Entry is granted only after a train arrives at the platform. We are ensuring that the number of passengers on the platform does not exceed its capacity. All arrangements are in place,” he added.

Large numbers of devotees are continually arriving at Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh to take part in the holy dip. The final major bathing event is scheduled for Maha Shivratri on February 26.
