In front of a worldwide audience, Trump and Vance took Zelensky to task, accusing him of lack of gratitude and pressuring him to negotiate a peace deal with Russia. Zelensky, visibly distressed, appealed to the American leaders to reconsider, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly violated ceasefire agreements, unlawfully occupying Ukrainian land in Crimea and infringing on human rights.
This uncomfortable exchange has ignited significant criticism not just in Washington but internationally as well.
