MIAMI – The sister of a 21-year-old man has identified him as the individual who was shot and injured by a Miami police officer near Bayfront Park on Sunday.

According to a Miami police officer, he was compelled to shoot at Menelek Clarke after Clarke’s vehicle struck him while he was directing traffic on Biscayne Boulevard during the Best of the Best concert.

Sherylann Clarke stated she was in the vehicle with her brother at that moment, as they were searching for parking.

“We were all halted. We were in the center, and he directed everyone else to proceed with his hands, indicating we could go,” she explained. “Then he positioned himself in front of my brother’s car and shot him. It wasn’t deliberate to hit him. The man moved with the vehicle as he was maneuvering around him.”

Menelek Clarke, who was shot multiple times, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

“He’s in stable condition. He just had a tube removed, so he’s able to talk,” Sherylann Clarke shared. “He mentioned that he felt like he was going to die.”

Sherylann Clarke indicated that her brother was unarmed and is currently in critical, yet stable, condition.

As per protocol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the shooting.
