Severe Weather in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia | Live Updates for Sunday, May 25

Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings are in effect for several counties in North Georgia until midnight, as a line of strong storms approaches metro Atlanta. The 11Alive Weather Impact Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert effective through 3 a.m. Monday, indicating a heightened risk for severe weather in northwest Georgia. Current watches cover Floyd, Chattooga, Pickens, and other counties. Reports of storm damage include fallen trees and a barn collapse in Bartow County. Alerts for some regions, including Fulton and Cobb counties, have been cancelled, while others remain under warnings until the storm subsides.

Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings have been issued for several counties in north Georgia until midnight.

The 11Alive Weather Impact Team has released a Weather Impact Alert for tonight as they monitor a line of potent storms that may bring damaging winds to metro Atlanta and areas of North Georgia. This alert will be in effect until 3 a.m. Monday.

The Storm Prediction Center has widened the Level 2 (Slight Risk) area to include parts of northwest Georgia, indicating an increased likelihood of strong to severe storms overnight in that region. The remainder of metro Atlanta remains under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk for severe weather. 

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is currently in effect for Floyd, Chattooga, Pickens, Bartow, Gordon, Gilmer, Fannin, and Polk counties until midnight. This watch may be expanded to cover additional counties as the night continues.

  • 10:35 p.m. | The severe thunderstorm watch has been lifted for Fulton, Paulding, Douglas, Dekalb, Carroll, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Haralson counties.
  • 10:30 p.m. | A barn has collapsed in Bartow County in Cartersville as storms moved through.

  • 9:36 p.m. | Trees have fallen on I-75 in Bartow County near Adairsville, with some obstructing the roadway.

  • 9:15 p.m. | Hail has been reported in Marietta.

  • 9:13 p.m. | The severe thunderstorm watch has now been canceled for Pickens, Chattooga, Bartow, Gordon, Forsyth, Floyd, Gilmer, Fannin, Dawson, Union, Cherokee, and Polk counties. 
  • 8:57 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Cleburn and Randolph County, Alabama until 3 a.m. 
  • 8:43 p.m. | Local officials report multiple fallen trees in the Cartersville area.
  • 8:29 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, and Gwinnett counties until 9:15 p.m. 
  • 8:04 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Fulton, Forsyth, Cherokee, and Cobb counties until 8:30 p.m. 
  • 7:43 p.m. | Highway 255 at Couch Road is closed in south Murray County due to a large tree obstructing the road.
  • 7:39 p.m. | Reports indicate numerous fallen trees in the vicinity of Spring Creek Road and Burton Road in Chattooga County.
  • 7:38 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Pickens, Bartow, Floyd, Gilmer, and Cherokee counties until 8:15 p.m.
  • 7:25 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm watch is active for Fulton, Paulding, Forsyth, Douglas, Dawson, DeKalb, Union, Carroll, Cherokee, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Haralson counties until midnight.
  • 7:13 p.m. A tornado warning has been issued for Bartow and Gordon counties until 7:30 p.m.
