Officials in Clark County are looking into the unrelated deaths of two individuals who were reportedly in Las Vegas for the Electric Daisy Carnival dance music festival.
Azmi Atassi, 33, from Flagstaff, Arizona, and Opkar Mahal, 39, from North Las Vegas, both passed away on Sunday, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. The causes of death remain under investigation.
Mahal was found deceased at the festival, which occurred at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, located in the 7000 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North, as stated by a county spokesperson. Atassi, on the other hand, was pronounced dead at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at 2650 Las Vegas Boulevard South.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department mentioned in a statement on Tuesday that they are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the deaths. According to police, one individual suffered a medical emergency while attending EDC and was subsequently transported to the University Medical Center, where they later died. The other was found deceased in their hotel room and was believed to be in Las Vegas for the festival.
