Three tornadoes verified in Michigan

Three tornadoes touched down in Michigan on Thursday night, confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS). An EF-0 tornado, with winds up to 80 mph, traveled from Galesburg to Battle Creek, while another EF-0 occurred near St. Mary’s Lake. An EF-1 tornado was reported north of Charlotte, moving towards Lansing. NWS crews will survey storm damage across several counties, including Calhoun and Kalamazoo, over the weekend. While more storms are expected in West Michigan, they are not anticipated to be as severe as Thursday’s weather events.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has verified that three tornadoes struck Michigan on Thursday night.

An EF-0 tornado was recorded between Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties Thursday evening, as reported by the NWS.

This tornado, which was noted to have wind speeds reaching 80 mph, progressed eastward from Galesburg to Battle Creek, according to officials.

The NWS also confirmed another EF-0 tornado occurred near St. Mary’s Lake close to Battle Creek.

An EF-1 tornado was reported to have touched down north of Charlotte, heading east toward Lansing, as per the NWS.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service survey teams are set to examine storm damage across the following counties starting Friday and continuing into the weekend:

  • Allegan
  • Barry
  • Calhoun
  • Eaton
  • Ingham
  • Ionia
  • Kalamazoo
  • Kent

However, their assessments may extend beyond these regions.

Further storms are anticipated to sweep through West Michigan on Friday night, though a repetition of Thursday’s storms is unlikely, according to meteorologists from News Channel 3.
