ROME, Italy—A victory is a victory, but a swift one is even more enjoyable.
“I was like, ‘Please, Mirra. Do your best. Just don’t let it go to a third set,’” joked Mirra Andreeva after clinching five of the last six games in a 6-1, 7-5 third round match against Linda Noskova at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
The No. 7 seed Andreeva had to rally from a 4-2 deficit in the second set against No. 30 seed Noskova, who later had a chance to lead 5-3, before ultimately winning in 83 minutes on Campo Centrale.
“I felt that in the first set, I was playing well, but she also made a lot of errors,” Andreeva shared after the match. “So, my primary objective was to get as many balls in the court as I could.
“In the second set, she began to play more aggressively, and her shots started landing. It became significantly harder to compete against her. I focused on chasing down every ball she hit, playing as deep as possible to build the points and create chances to attack.”
