The Samsung Galaxy S25 series, launched with One UI 7, will receive an over-the-air update to One UI 8. The first beta for the Galaxy S25 Ultra has been identified, suggesting a public beta release in mid-June. Previous updates show that the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s One UI 7 rollout faced delays but ultimately launched in April. One UI 8 is expected to build on its predecessor with a more straightforward update. The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 will debut with One UI 8 in late July or early August. Future development of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S26 series is also underway.
The Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra were released with One UI 7, but they will need to wait for an over-the-air update for One UI 8, just like other Galaxy devices. Fortunately, this update might arrive sooner than anticipated.
The initial One UI 8 beta version for the Galaxy S25 Ultra has been identified by Tarun Vats. The new firmware versions are S938BXXU3ZYEA / S938BOXM3ZYEA / S938BXXU3BYEA.
Looking back at the previous generation, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra received a One UI 7 test build in May 2024. Various delays pushed the stable release to April of this year. However, this was a significant update, extensively revising the One UI aspects of the firmware, not just the core Android OS. One UI 8 is expected to build upon version 7 and should be a more straightforward update.

According to Vats, the initial public One UI 8 beta for the Galaxy S25 series is expected to launch in mid-June. The performance of this beta will indicate the timeline for the stable release.
A video demonstration along with screenshots from early One UI 8 builds have already surfaced. Below is a recent video showcasing Samsung’s enhancements to transition animations in One UI:

The first devices to come pre-installed with the new software will be the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, anticipated for late July or early August.
Interestingly, prior Galaxy foldables have launched with the same major One UI version as that year’s Galaxy S series, albeit with a minor version update. This indicates that One UI 8 is further along in its development compared to version 7 at this time last year.
Samsung is also planning ahead, with leaks suggesting work on One UI 8.5 for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.
