Xiaomi Enters into Partnership Agreement with Nurburgring

Xiaomi is expanding into the electric car market by partnering with Germany’s Nürburgring race track for development and promotion activities. A new “Xiaomi curve” has been designated at turn 12 on the Grand Prix circuit, and the brand will also advertise along the Nordschleife. The production version of Xiaomi’s high-performance electric sedan, the SU7 Ultra, has completed a notable lap at Nürburgring and was launched with 1,548 horsepower at a starting price of over $73,000. The company aims to deliver 350,000 vehicles this year, with demand for the SU7 exceeding expectations and average delivery wait times up to 40 weeks.

The renowned Chinese technology firm Xiaomi is making significant strides in the electric vehicle sector by partnering with Germany’s iconic Nürburgring race track. This collaboration enables Xiaomi to utilize the famed track for both development and marketing purposes.

As part of this partnership, a new “Xiaomi curve” has been established on the Grand Prix circuit, specifically at turn 12, a challenging left-hand bend following the Michael Schumacher S or the Goodyear Spange on the shorter sprint layout. Moreover, Xiaomi will have a noticeable presence on the Nordschleife, the longer and more intricate circuit, featuring a substantial advertising installation positioned between the Aremberg and Fuchsrohre sections.

This development aligns with the production version of Xiaomi’s high-performance electric sedan, the SU7 Ultra, which is currently facing the Nürburgring challenge. In October, a prototype of the SU7 Ultra achieved an impressive lap time of 6:46.874, reportedly making it the fastest four-door car to have ever completed the circuit. The production model, rolled out in China in late February with an astonishing 1,548 horsepower, starts at just over $73,000. Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, recently revealed that the production of the SU7 Ultra is once again putting its capabilities to the test at the Nürburgring.

Beyond merely setting lap records, Xiaomi is now formally engaged in the testing and development activities at the Nürburgring. For 16 weeks annually, the track functions as a vital hub for automotive manufacturers and suppliers to refine their vehicles and components. Xiaomi will take advantage of this opportunity to enhance its electric vehicle technology.

Christian Stephani, CEO of the Nürburgring, expressed his excitement about the new collaboration, stating that they are “thrilled that Xiaomi, a dynamic brand from Asia, is utilizing the Nürburgring as a significant development and promotional platform.” This partnership underscores the Nürburgring’s ongoing importance as a testing ground for innovative automotive technology, particularly in the fast-evolving realm of electric vehicles.

Xiaomi officially introduced its first electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan, in March 2024, with a starting price of around $29,900. The interest in the SU7 has surpassed expectations, with average delivery wait times now reaching approximately 40 weeks. Xiaomi EV is aiming to deliver 350,000 vehicles in total this year, and its recent performance shows robust momentum. In April alone, over 28,000 vehicles were delivered, marking the seventh consecutive month with deliveries surpassing 20,000 units.
