Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck are negotiating to reunite in the comedy The Best Is Yet to Come, directed by Jon Turteltaub and scripted by Allan Loeb. The film, backed by MRC with Lionsgate discussing distribution, is based on a French film of the same name. Production is set to begin in summer, with deals nearing completion.
EXCLUSIVE: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off stars Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck are in discussions to come together once again in The Best Is Yet to Come, a comedy written by Allan Loeb and directed by Jon Turteltaub. The project is supported by MRC, with Lionsgate currently in negotiations for distribution. It is inspired by the French film of the same name.
Amy Baer is producing through her Gidden Media label, while Dimitri Rassam serves as executive producer, having previously produced the original 2019 film through Chapter 2. Loeb will also take on the role of EP.
The last time Broderick and Ruck shared the screen, Ruck portrayed the disenchanted son of a wealthy father, who appeared to favor his 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder over his own child. This prompted the youth to launch the classic car through a glass window, creating a problem even Ferris (Broderick) struggles to resolve. In this new film, they embark on another road trip.
In The Best Is Yet to Come, they will portray lifelong friends who, after a significant misunderstanding that sets a time limit, jump into a car to locate the estranged son of one of them, while also attempting to accomplish the things life has held them back from doing. The original film was helmed by Alexandre de La Patelliere and Matthieu Delaporte.
Broderick and Ruck (Succession) have remained friends since they first starred in John Hughes’ beloved 1986 comedy.
Representatives for Broderick include CAA and Entertainment 360, while Loeb is represented by WME and Mosaic, Turteltaub by WME and Oasis Media, and Ruck by IAG and Teitelbaum Artists Group.
Deals are nearing completion as the filmmakers aim for a summer production kickoff. Lionsgate has chosen not to comment.
