Sony is expected to announce the Xperia 1 VII on May 15, the same date as its predecessor’s reveal last year. It will be available in Japan on the same day, but the global release is rumored for July. The Xperia 1 VII appears similar to the 1 VI and may feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC with 12GB of RAM, running Android 15, despite Android 16’s upcoming release. Size-wise, it measures 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.5mm, slightly differing from the previous model, but the screen size is suggested to remain at 6.5 inches.
Sony unveiled the Xperia 1 VI on May 15 of last year, leading to speculation about the launch date of its successor, the Xperia 1 VII. A new rumor from Japan suggests that the announcement will occur on the same date: May 15.
Additionally, it will be available in Japan on that same day, which is good news. However, the catch is that its global launch is expected to take place only in July. While this remains a rumor for now and we can’t guarantee its accuracy, it wouldn’t be surprising if this timeline holds true. Historically, Sony has had notable delays from the announcement to the worldwide release of its devices.

It features 12GB of RAM, matching the Xperia 1 VI’s specifications. The device is anticipated to launch with Android 15, despite Google planning to roll out Android 16 by late June.
Measuring 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.5mm, the 1 VII is slightly shorter, wider, and thicker than its predecessor. Nevertheless, the screen size is rumored to stay the same at 6.5″.
