Microsoft has unveiled its latest Surface devices: the 2-in-1 Surface Pro 12 and the Surface Laptop 13, both powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus chip. The Surface Pro 12 features a 12-inch LCD touchscreen with a 90Hz refresh rate, 16GB RAM, and storage options of 256GB or 512GB. It lacks a cooling vent and includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Priced from $800, it’s available for pre-order. The Surface Laptop 13 has a smaller 13-inch touchscreen, weighs 1.22 kg, and offers similar specs, starting at $900. Both devices support Microsoft’s Copilot+ suite, with deliveries set for May 20.
Microsoft has unveiled its newest Surface devices, the 2-in-1 Surface Pro 12 and the Surface Laptop 13. Both models are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus chip, run Windows 11, and come equipped with Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC suite.
Surface Pro 12
The Surface Pro 12 features a 12-inch LCD touchscreen boasting a resolution of 2,196 x 1,464 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. It retains the iconic Surface 3:2 aspect ratio and supports stylus input through the included Surface Slim Pen, which magnetically attaches and charges at the back of the device. It has a 1080p front-facing camera with Windows Hello functionality and a 10MP rear camera.
As with earlier Surface 2-in-1 models, the Surface Pro 12 includes an adjustable kickstand and a detachable keyboard. The optional keyboard accessory is now available in Slate, Violet, and Ocean colors, though it no longer features the Alcantara finish seen in previous models.
The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus (8 cores), with 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB. It lacks cooling vents and includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, but does not offer a cellular option.
The Surface Pro 12 features an aluminum chassis, weighs just 686 grams, and has a thickness of 7.8 mm. It is equipped with 2 USB-C ports supporting USB 3.2 and DP 1.4a protocols, while the magnetic Surface Connect charging port has been removed.
While Microsoft did not disclose the actual battery capacity of the Surface Pro 12, it claims that the device can provide up to 12 hours of web usage and 16 hours of local video playback.
The Surface Pro 12 is currently available for pre-order, starting at $800/€979/£799 for the 256GB model, and comes in Platinum, Violet, and Ocean colors. Expected delivery is set for May 20.
Surface Laptop 13
The new 13-inch Surface Laptop is the most compact model in the Surface Laptop range, complementing the 13.8” and 15” versions. It features a 13-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The laptop includes a 1080p webcam, but lacks Windows Hello for quick and secure logins.
This laptop also features an aluminum chassis and weighs 1.22 kg. It is powered by the same 8-core Snapdragon X Plus chip as the Surface Pro 12, paired with 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB.
In terms of connectivity, you’ll find 1 USB-A (3.1) port, 2 USB-C (supporting USB 4 and DisplayPort 1.4a), along with a headphone jack. It offers Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 capabilities.
Similar to the Surface Pro 12, no actual battery capacity has been mentioned. Microsoft claims up to 16 hours of web usage and as much as 23 hours of local video playback.
The Surface Laptop 13 is available in Ocean, Violet, and Platinum colors, with pricing starting at $900/€1,099/£899 for the 256GB version. Deliveries are also set for May 20.
