Breaking News: Samsung Begins Mass Production of Next-Gen Foldable Devices, Excluding the Tri-Fold Model

Samsung has begun mass production of the Galaxy Z Flip7, with internal components produced since February. The Flip7 features a 6.85-inch inner display, larger than the Z Flip6’s 6.7-inch, and a 4-inch edge-to-edge cover display, up from 3.4 inches. However, the tri-fold device, known as Q7M, is still in the component stage and hasn’t started mass production. Expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, the tri-fold will be limited to around 200,000 units, while larger production targets exist for the Z Flip FE and Z Fold7, aiming for 900,000 and 3 million units, respectively.

According to leakster Max Jambor, Samsung has been working on certain components for the next Galaxy Z series since mid-February, and the actual phone production is now commencing.

Max has shared that the B7 display will measure 161.57 x 69.96mm. “B7” refers to the internal codename for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7, similar to how B6 was used for the Z Flip6. This results in a diagonal measurement of 176mm, which is slightly larger than the 170.3mm diagonal of the Z Flip6 (noting that this does not account for the rounded corners). In fact, the Z Flip7 is said to feature a 6.85” inner display, an increase from the 6.7” display of its predecessor, along with a more spacious 4” cover display that stretches edge-to-edge, unlike the 3.4” display of the Z Flip6.

While all appears well, Max also brings some disappointing news – Samsung’s triple foldable has yet to enter mass production. The company has been producing components for it since late March, but the actual phone assembly has not begun. This tri-fold device is internally labeled as Q7M, but it is anticipated to take on the Galaxy G Fold name upon release.

This doesn’t necessarily suggest that there are issues at hand. Reports indicate that the Samsung tri-fold is set to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, but will only be available in select countries with a limited production run of approximately 200,000 units, according to rumors. To put this in perspective, the Galaxy Z Flip FE is projected to ship 900,000 units, while the Galaxy Z Fold7 aims for 3 million.
