The Office of Special Counsel (OSC) has recommended the removal of 19th Judicial District Judge Tiffany Foxworth-Roberts due to alleged misconduct, including dishonesty about her military service and a false insurance claim for a stolen diamond ring. The OSC’s findings highlighted egregious unethical behavior and lack of cooperation during the investigation. Foxworth-Roberts, elected in August 2020, is accused of misleading statements related to a burglary and exaggerating her military rank in campaign materials. The Judiciary Commission will consider the OSC’s recommendation before it reaches the Louisiana Supreme Court for a final decision.
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A recent legal brief acquired by the WAFB I-TEAM indicates that the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) has proposed the removal of Judge Tiffany Foxworth-Roberts from her position on the 19th Judicial District bench.
In its brief to the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana, the OSC stated, “The OSC suggests that the Commission recommend to the Louisiana Supreme Court that Respondent, Judge Tiffany Foxworth-Roberts, be removed from judicial office.” Should the Judiciary Commission recommend the judge’s removal, the final verdict will be determined by the Louisiana State Supreme Court.
Judge Foxworth-Roberts faces allegations of dishonesty regarding her military service in campaign advertisements, as well as untruthfulness about an insurance claim for a diamond ring. She was elected to her current position in August 2020.
In a brief submitted to the Judiciary Commission on March 31, 2025, the OSC expressed agreement with the Hearing Officer’s findings and advocated for the judge’s removal.
Michael Bewers, assistant special counsel to the Judicial Commission of Louisiana, noted, “The evidence overwhelmingly indicates that Judge Foxworth-Roberts’ actions amounted to egregious unethical conduct, warranting a harsh penalty. Her significant misconduct, including a marked lack of cooperation, was intentional and calculated, aimed at advancing her interests and evading scrutiny. Such persistent conduct, detrimental to the administration of justice and damaging to the reputation of the judicial office, clearly justifies a recommendation for her removal.”
The OSC’s recommendation has been presented to the Judiciary Commission, which will now deliberate on whether to forward it to the State Supreme Court. Foxworth-Roberts is scheduled to appear before the commission for a hearing on Friday, May 23.
Bewers asserted that Foxworth-Roberts made “false and misleading statements” during inquiries related to a burglary that occurred during her political campaign in 2020. An anonymous source informed the commission that Foxworth-Roberts allegedly filed a false police report and insurance claim concerning this incident.
The brief claims the judge was not honest regarding an insurance claim for a stolen $19,000 diamond ring. The OSC contends the judge attempted to obscure this claim and misled the OSC regarding the losses she reported.
There were also allegations that the judge misrepresented her military rank in advertisements that called her a former Captain in the U.S. Army, even though she left the U.S. Army Reserves as a First Lieutenant, as noted in the document.
As part of its investigation, the OSC retrieved the judge’s military records directly from the Army “without her cooperation,” according to the brief. These records confirmed that Respondent (Foxworth-Roberts) was never a Captain and didn’t achieve that rank on two occasions before her separation from the U.S. Army Reserves at the First Lieutenant rank.
Bewers pointed out that the claim of Captain rank was a key aspect of her judicial campaign.
“Judge Foxworth-Roberts’ serious misconduct in this case is part of a broader pattern rather than an isolated incident,” Bewers wrote.
He further emphasized that the alleged false claims in campaign ads, signs, and speeches regarding the judge’s military history were particularly damaging to the judiciary.
“A fundamental dishonesty is evident in Judge Foxworth-Roberts’ actions throughout every dimension of this case. Such dishonesty cannot be permitted within Louisiana’s esteemed judiciary,” Bewers stated. “Considering the scale of the misconduct, and Judge Foxworth-Roberts’ clear indifference and lack of accountability for her actions, the Commission should ultimately find that there is no acceptable alternative to address her serious and ongoing misconduct.”
Due to regulations preventing judiciary members from commenting to the media, Foxworth-Roberts is not in a position to respond to the allegations outlined in the leaked document.
