Qualcomm is set to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset in late September, ahead of its usual October release. This change aims to ensure Android device manufacturers can better compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17, expected in September. Early reports suggest the Elite 2 will feature significant performance upgrades: a 30% boost in GPU performance and a 25% increase in CPU performance compared to its predecessor. Devices utilizing the Elite 2 are expected to be available in China shortly after the announcement, helping Android OEMs potentially boost sales during the year-end holiday season.
Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset last October, leading many to expect its successor, tentatively named Elite 2, to debut this October.
However, a rumor from China suggests that the next Elite will actually be unveiled in late September. Following that, we’ll see devices featuring it hitting the market by October, at least in China.
Previously, the AnTuTu benchmark score for the Elite 2 leaked, indicating significant performance upgrades compared to its predecessor. Reports suggest that its GPU performance will improve by 30%, while CPU performance will see a 25% increase compared to the original 8 Elite.
This seems to be a crucial release, arriving earlier than usual to help Android manufacturers compete directly with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series, expected in September. An earlier SoC launch could also assist some Android OEMs in boosting their unit sales during the holiday shopping season at the end of the year.
