Insta360 has launched the X5, an enhanced version of its 8K 360° camera. The X5 features larger 1/1.28” sensors, AI-powered low-light capabilities, replaceable lenses, and improved water resistance (IP68 rating up to 15m). It offers 140% more computing power with a Triple AI Chip system and supports 8K video at 30fps and 5.7K at 60fps. The camera’s battery lasts up to 187 minutes and can fast charge to 80% in 20 minutes. Available for $550, the X5 also includes the new InstaFrame function for quick social media clips and features improved wind noise reduction.
In the previous year, Insta360 introduced its inaugural 8K 360° camera, the X4. Now, its successor, the Insta360 X5, features larger image sensors, an AI-enhanced low-light mode, improved water resistance, and a bigger battery. A notable upgrade in this iteration is the ability to replace lenses, allowing you to fix a scratched lens at home for just $30.
The X5 is equipped with 1/1.28” sensors, which are 144% larger than the 1/2” sensors found in the X3 and X4, enabling it to capture significantly more light.
PureVideo technology offers AI-driven noise reduction and dynamic range optimization for low-light scenarios. Furthermore, Active HDR is functional up to 5.7K at 60fps. This new camera operates with a Triple AI Chip system that includes one 5nm AI Chip and two Pro Imaging chips, providing a total of 140% more processing power compared to its predecessor.
The video recording options remain largely unchanged from the X4. The highest setting is 8K at 30fps, while 5.7K resolution supports 60fps. Notably, there’s an enhancement allowing for 120fps at 4K resolution (up from 100fps with the X4). PureVideo technology is operational up to 8K at 30fps and 5.7K also at 30fps (not at 60fps).
For users who want to quickly share a clip on social media, the new InstaFrame captures two videos. The first is meant for immediate posting – it’s a flat video directed at a fixed point or equipped with automatic tracking to keep you centered. The second allows for a full 360° video (up to 5.7K at 30fps) that can be manually re-framed later at your convenience.
The Insta360 X5 is built for more adventures, now boasting an IP68 rating with water resistance up to 15m/49ft without the need for a dive housing (an upgrade from the 10m/33ft of the X4). Additionally, a new steel mesh Wind Guard, along with enhanced algorithms, effectively minimizes wind noise.
Insta360 also offers a compact wireless microphone that can be clipped to your clothing. This microphone also serves as a convenient remote control, allowing you to start recording even when the camera is mounted in hard-to-reach places – such as on the new 3m invisible selfie stick.
The new lenses are constructed from high-strength, scratch-resistant glass. If you do end up scratching a lens, it can be replaced for $30 and swapped out easily at home. Lens guards are also available, designed for easy replacement in the field.

The new model also enhances battery performance with a 2,400mAh battery capable of lasting up to 187 minutes (37% longer than the X4). This duration is measured in 5.7K at 24fps; however, the maximum recording time in 8K at 30fps is 88 minutes. The X4, equipped with a 2,290mAh battery, recorded for 75 minutes in 8K at 30fps. The battery supports fast charging, reaching 80% in 20 minutes (and 100% in 35 minutes) when using a 30W USB-C charger.
The Insta360 X5 is available now on the company’s online store. The standard package is priced at $550/€590, with various bundles offered to suit different recording needs, such as for motorcycle, snowboard, or dive adventures. The X5 can also be purchased through Amazon and other retailers.
