Diego Luna Advises Watching Rogue One After Andor Season 2
Diego Luna shared with attendees that Season 2 is “enormous in every conceivable way. Everything is crucial as we approach Rogue One. All the characters from Season 1 return, along with several new faces. You’ll see many familiar characters, and it promises to be intense.”
Luna further commented, “Once you finish the season, you should watch Rogue One because it will feel completely different.”
Gilroy explained that while Season 1 took a year to unfold, “Season 2 will cover 4 years in a single season. Each set of three episodes corresponds to one year. We’ll be releasing three episodes weekly, essentially delivering a movie each week. We aim to highlight the most important three to four days within each year.”
Andor Season 2 Will Be “More Ambitious”
Executive producer Sanne Wohlenberg remarked that this season will be “broader, larger, and more ambitious. Our talented team has truly excelled.” The second season features 140 sets across 7 stages, two backlots, 700 costumes for main characters, 150 creatures, 30 droids, and 4100 VFX shots!
Gilroy stated, “We’ll continue to follow every character you know and love. While Cassian is central to the narrative, there’s a rich ensemble surrounding him. We’ll delve into each story completely and thoroughly.”
“Regarding Mon Mothma, we start in a different place; this season will introduce us to entirely new worlds and characters. Our storyline begins on Chandrila with a wedding and the ensuing complications.
Then we journey to deeper themes. For Mon, especially, we will explore her struggles under the Empire’s scrutiny. This season delves into some darker territories where she must emerge from the shadows and risk everything to confront the truth.”
Exploring Andor Season 2 Characters
Denise Gough discussed Dedra Meero’s narrative arc this season, saying, “We discover Dedra’s origins and perhaps what shapes her persona. The journey grows increasingly complex. Being part of such a well-rounded ensemble is unique for me. Dedra reveals herself significantly this season; it’s less about girl power and much more aligned with fascism.”
Kyle Soller mentioned that the dynamic between Dedra and his character, Syril Karn, is “quite peculiar.” Syril begins this season on an upswing, receiving promotions and forming new friendships on a new planet, asserting the limited power he holds within the Empire. He attempts to assert himself [Soller gestured towards Gough].
Soller continued, “Their relationship is fascinating because as they open up to each other, they find themselves in unexpected, high-stakes situations. It’s definitely intense.”
“When we first encounter Bix in Season 2, she has left her past behind,” said Adria Arjona. “She’s in the process of rebuilding herself, grappling with everything that occurred with Dr. Gorst. Viewers will catch a glimpse into the special bond beginning to form with Cassian. This season provides a deep exploration of their connection.”
K-2SO Returns to the Screen!
In Andor Season 2, Alan Tudyk is back as the droid K-2SO. Tudyk expressed, “I always hoped for K-2SO’s return. I really wanted it to happen, even dreamt of my own spinoff, K2-Fast, K2-Furious. But Tony is the superior writer; he has crafted an astounding series. This season will showcase how K and Cassian’s relationship develops, revealing the birth of K-2SO. It exceeds my highest expectations. This series feels important, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
Luna acknowledged how much he missed K-2SO and Tudyk. “I felt Alan’s absence profoundly. Those seven years were challenging. I was laughing the moment I saw him back in that fitted suit! We spent a lot of time together in the cockpit. He is genuinely the most generous scene partner, always striving to make every moment more interesting and enjoyable. That’s a wonderful experience as an actor. I never anticipated it would be so enjoyable. K is a character with depth, and Alan elevated him to new heights. It was both heartwarming and heartbreaking to witness that character’s origin.”
The Andor panel concluded with a special treat for attendees: a screening of the first episode of Season 2! (Keep an eye out for IGN’s review next week.)
