Stephen Colbert and Alan Cumming are shifting their perspective on billionaires—quite literally. In an amusing collaboration, the pair has crafted a new song titled “Billionaires Are Actually Good,” but the goal is to encourage these billionaires to fade into the background.
On Tuesday night’s “Late Show,” Colbert set the stage by referencing a fresh Forbes report indicating that the number of billionaires has reached an all-time high. The CBS host expressed disbelief at this statistic, questioning, “Why can’t we have more of something truly positive?”
As Colbert reminisced about billionaires being invited to Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration with prime seating, he pondered why possessing immense wealth doesn’t seem to suffice for them. Yet, he offered a potential explanation.
“The answer, I believe, is straightforward,” he remarked. “As Paul McCartney famously stated, ‘Money can’t buy me love.’ Those words ring so true that they helped him become a billionaire. The ultra-wealthy are evidently in search of validation to satisfy an emotional void, and if a bit of recognition and admiration can lure them away from our lives back to their private islands shaped like their own likenesses, I say it’s worth a try.”
Amidst this, a music video commenced. The concept of the song is straightforward, aptly reflected in its title: “Billionaires are actually good.”
“Billionaires are superior to us. They purchase planes and islands and hair,” Colbert sang. “Don’t believe me? Just Google it on Google, which is run by billionaires. As the song progressed, “The Traitors” host Alan Cumming eventually made an appearance.
“My father passed away just this December, swaying in his favorite chair,” he sang. “His final words? I don’t recall. Who cares? He’s not a billionaire.”
