Acer is reentering the Indian smartphone market on April 15 with Amazon, revealing details about an upcoming unnamed budget 5G phone. It features a 64 MP main camera using an unspecified Sony sensor, along with an ultrawide and a third decorative macro or depth sensor, marking a “rare” triple camera setup for this segment. The main camera promises enhanced low-light performance and incorporates AI for noise reduction and color tuning. The phones will be designed and distributed by India’s Indkal Technologies, which holds a licensing agreement for the Acer name and also produces Acer-branded TVs for India.
Acer is set to re-enter the Indian smartphone market on April 15, collaborating with Amazon, and additional details about one of its upcoming devices have been revealed today.
The unnamed smartphone is expected to feature a 64 MP primary camera utilizing a yet-to-be-specified Sony sensor, along with an ultrawide camera and a third sensor that may serve as a macro or depth sensor. This is touted to be a “unique triple camera setup in the budget 5G segment,” although calling it “triple” might be a bit misleading given the basic nature of the third sensor.
The main camera’s Sony sensor supposedly “guarantees improved low-light photography,” and there will undoubtedly be discussions regarding AI capabilities for noise reduction, edge detection, and color tuning—features that have been around since the early days of cameraphones but are now often marketed under the label of AI, as companies like to present it.
The smartphones will be designed, manufactured, and distributed by Indkal Technologies in India, which appears to have simply acquired the Acer brand rights. Indkal also produces Acer-branded TVs for the Indian market.
Interestingly, the smartphone detailed today is not one of the two we mentioned back in early March, indicating that the brand plans to launch at least three models right from the start. However, the other two devices are positioned even lower in the market.
