Apple is expanding its iPhone assembly outside China, with India being a key beneficiary. A report from The Economic Times reveals that Foxconn plans to significantly increase its iPhone production in India, aiming to assemble 25-30 million units by the end of this year, compared to approximately 12 million last year. This increase is facilitated by a new facility in Bengaluru, which will become Foxconn’s second-largest iPhone assembly plant. Trial production runs have already commenced, although both Apple and Foxconn have not commented on the situation.
In recent years, Apple has been expanding its iPhone production locations to decrease its dependence on China as the primary manufacturing center. India is emerging as a significant beneficiary of this strategy, with a new report from The Economic Times indicating that Foxconn intends to enhance its iPhone assembly operations in India.
The report claims that Foxconn plans to assemble between 25 and 30 million iPhones in India by the end of this year. According to estimates from an uncredited source, Foxconn produced around 12 million iPhones in India last year, suggesting that the production figures for 2025 would more than double.
A crucial factor for Foxconn is its new facility in Bengaluru, which, when completed, will become the second-largest iPhone assembly plant in the contract manufacturer’s network. The latest report indicates that Foxconn has already initiated trial iPhone production runs over the previous months. However, both Apple and Foxconn have remained tight-lipped about this development.
