Tariffs continue to capture investor interest as the April 2 deadline nears for President Trump to impose reciprocal duties. Trump mentioned on Friday that he is keeping “flexibility” regarding the tariffs’ implementation, but has not provided a clear outline for what that might entail.
Additional worries for Wall Street involve whether the year-to-date losses represent merely a temporary slowdown or if the economy is on the brink of a recession. JPMorgan strategist Bruch Kasman estimates the likelihood of a recession at as high as 40%.
In terms of earnings, quarterly reports from Lululemon (LULU), Gamestop (GME), and Dollar Tree (DLTR) are scheduled for release this week amidst a quieter financial calendar.
As for upcoming economic data, the Fed’s favored inflation measure, the Personal Consumption Expenditures Index, is expected on Friday. The PCE report will be released alongside figures from the University of Michigan’s consumer confidence survey and updates to the Purchasing Managers’ Indexes for both manufacturing and services.
