Weekly Survey: Could the Nothing Phone (3a) or Phone (3a) Pro Be Your Next Device?

Nothing has launched its third generation of phones with the more affordable Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro models. Both feature a 6.77” 1080p+ display, Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, 5,000mAh battery, and IP64 rating. The Phone (3a) is priced at €330 for the base model, while the Pro starts at €460. The primary difference lies in their camera systems; the Pro boasts a superior setup with Dual Pixel autofocus, a better selfie camera, and advanced telephoto capabilities. While the (3a) offers better overall value, the (3a) Pro is notable for its telephoto lens, making it appealing for photography enthusiasts.

The third generation of Nothing’s phones kicks off with the more budget-friendly a-series, introducing two models at launch: a standard version and a Pro variant. The standard model is available for purchase starting this week, while the Pro model will follow in about a week (currently available for pre-order).

The Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro have a lot in common when it comes to specifications. Both feature a 6.77” 1080p+ display (120Hz, 10-bit, HDR10+), are powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, come with a 5,000mAh battery supporting 50W wired charging, boast an IP64 rating (dust-tight and splash resistant), and share the same Glyph lights on the back. The primary differences lie in the camera setups for each device.

Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro

The Nothing Phone (3a) is the more affordable option, priced at €330/£330/₹25,000 for the base 8/128GB model, while the 12/256GB variant costs €380/£380. The 12/256GB version is also available in the US for $380. In India, the 256GB variant comes with 8GB of RAM and is priced at ₹27,000. Note that the (3a) does not support eSIM, unlike the (3a) Pro, which includes it in all regions except India.

Nothing Phone (3a)

The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro features a superior camera configuration. Both devices include similar 50MP main sensors with OIS, but only the Pro variant has Dual Pixel autofocus. The comparison is similar for the selfie cameras, with the Pro sporting a 50MP sensor capable of 4K @ 30fps video, while the standard version has a 32MP sensor with 1080p @ 30fps capabilities. Both models feature the same basic 8MP ultra-wide camera—it’s a shame to see the previous generation’s 50MP ultra-wide lenses missing.

Lastly, the telephoto setups mark a first for Nothing Phones. The standard model has a 50mm (2x) telephoto lens, while the Pro features a more advanced 70mm periscope lens (3x), each equipped with 50MP sensors. The Pro’s periscope lens is enhanced with OIS—vital for long-range shots—and can focus at closer distances (15cm compared to 25cm).

Nothing Phone (3a) Pro

We’ve already published a review of the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, so you can refer to that for additional details. A review for the Nothing Phone (3a) is also forthcoming. While we prepare for that, we’re curious—will you be purchasing one of these models?

Let’s begin with the Nothing Phone (3a). It delivers excellent value for most usage scenarios that don’t heavily rely on the camera. Its camera is commendable, but understandably not as capable as the Pro’s.

Now turning to the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro—it’s uncommon for mid-range devices to feature telephoto lenses, especially ones with a 50MP 3x specification as seen here. Despite being €100 more than its standard counterpart (when comparing similar memory models), it remains competitively priced.
