Bangladesh Updates: Ritu Moni and Jannatul Ferdus Make Comeback for Women’s World Cup Qualifier; Murshida Khatun Excluded

Experienced allrounder Ritu Moni returns to the Bangladesh ODI squad for the women’s World Cup qualifiers in Lahore next month, last playing an ODI against Ireland in December. The squad sees four changes, with Murshida Khatun, Lata Mondal, Sultana Khatun, and Taj Nehar dropped due to underperformance. Jannatul Ferdus returns after a five-year absence, while uncapped Ishma Tanjim joins after an impressive showing in the Women’s Dhaka Premier League. Bangladesh, arriving in Lahore on April 3, will compete against West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, and hosts Pakistan for two World Cup spots later this year.

Versatile player Ritu Moni has rejoined the Bangladesh ODI squad for the upcoming women’s World Cup qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Lahore next month. Her last ODI appearance was against Ireland in December of the previous year.
Bangladesh has made four modifications to the squad that played against West Indies in January, with Murshida Khatun being a significant omission. Lata Mondal, Sultana Khatun, and Taj Nehar have also been left out.

Murshida scored just 53 runs over three ODIs, while Sultana participated in one ODI and three T20Is, managing to take only two wickets against West Indies. Both Mondal and Nehar played only in the T20Is against West Indies but were unable to leave a mark.

Jannatul Ferdus, who last participated in an ODI back in 2018, is making a return to the squad, along with spin-bowling allrounder Ishma Tanjim, who is yet to make her ODI debut.

Ishma scored 336 runs in seven matches for Sheltech Cricket Academy during the recently concluded Women’s Dhaka Premier League. Ferdus topped the tournament as the highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets, whereas Moni was among the joint-second-highest wicket-takers with 18 wickets.

The Bangladesh team is set to arrive in Lahore on April 3, with qualifiers scheduled from April 5 to 19. A total of five teams will vie for the last two spots available in the eight-team World Cup, which is set to be held in India later this year. Bangladesh will face West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand, in addition to the host nation Pakistan.
