A 31-year-old South Carolina woman, An T. Ngo, reportedly stabbed her newborn son to death with a metal letter opener shortly after giving birth on March 7. Following the attack, she concealed the body in a garbage bag in her apartment. Police responded after her boyfriend alerted them, discovering the baby with severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Easley Police Chief Brandon Liner described the incident as “gruesome,” affirming that Ngo is the prime suspect. She was arrested on March 11, charged with homicide by child abuse, and denied bail, pending her court appearance on May 15.
A 31-year-old woman from the US, An T. Ngo, has been accused of fatally stabbing her newborn baby with a metal letter opener before hiding the body in a garbage bag. According to an arrest warrant referenced by People, the South Carolina resident gave birth to a boy on March 7 at her apartment complex. Moments after the birth, she allegedly used the letter opener to cut the umbilical cord and then repeatedly stabbed her newborn to death with the same tool.
“To be honest, I’ve been in law enforcement for over two and a half decades and I’ve never encountered anything this horrific. It’s beyond anything I’ve seen,” said Easley Police Chief Brandon Liner during a press conference Wednesday, as reported by the outlet.
After the stabbing, Ngo allegedly placed her newborn’s body in a plastic bag and moved it to another room, officers reported. The police were alerted by her boyfriend. When officers arrived, they discovered the baby suffering from severe injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Ngo was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

According to the police chief, “It is clear that Miss Ngo is responsible for this tragic murder,” as stated during the press conference, according to New York Post.
“We will advocate for this baby,” he declared, adding, “We will ensure that this child receives justice. It never had a chance at life. Not for long.”
The 31-year-old was arrested on March 11 following her release from the hospital. She faces charges of homicide by child abuse and is being held without bail, as the outlet reported. She is awaiting her next court appearance scheduled for May 15.
