Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has ordered a review of the recent decision to significantly reduce match fees for players and reserves in the National T20 Cup. The fees are anticipated to revert to PKR 40,000 per match for players and PKR 20,000 for reserves, up from the reduced amounts of PKR 10,000 and PKR 5,000 respectively. This adjustment follows criticism and speculation regarding the PCB’s financial status, though sources attribute the cuts to a rise in domestic tournaments, providing more earning opportunities. The tournament begins on March 14, with 39 matches scheduled before the final on March 27.
The PCB’s domestic department’s decision to lower match fees sparked significant outcry within cricketing circles, prompting fans and analysts to speculate about the board’s financial health. However, PCB sources assert that the reductions are a result of the increased number of domestic tournaments this season, which they believe will provide more earning prospects for players.
The National T20 Cup is set to commence on March 14, featuring 39 matches across three cities: Faisalabad, Lahore, and Multan. The tournament’s final will be held in Faisalabad on March 27. Several prominent Pakistani international cricketers will miss out, as the national team is currently in New Zealand for five T20Is and three ODIs.
