In February, Oppo unveiled the ultra-thin Find N5 foldable smartphone, emphasizing that it combines razor-thin design with durability. A recent YouTube video showcased its robust hinge, demonstrating that four unfolded devices can support a weight of 50 kg. This test was conducted in a controlled environment to maximize strength. The Find N5 boasts IPX8 and IPX9 certifications for water resistance. While the phone exhibits impressive toughness, its availability is limited, as it is currently sold only in a few Asia-Pacific countries. Overall, the Oppo Find N5 exemplifies the growing durability of foldable smartphones.
In February, Oppo launched the ultra-slim Find N5 foldable phone, aiming to demonstrate that a device can be both incredibly thin and remarkably durable. A recently released YouTube video showcased the impressive strength of its hinge, revealing that four unfolded units can hold a weight of 50 kg while hanging.

It’s crucial to mention that this test was conducted in a controlled environment where the devices were meticulously arranged to optimize the strength of the swing supporting the weights. Furthermore, there is an individual on the swing who may or may not exceed 50 kg, emphasizing the sturdiness of the hinges.
This demonstration reveals that foldable smartphones have become significantly more resilient. The Oppo Find N5 boasts IPX8 and IPX9 ratings for its resistance to both water immersion and water jets, while the Honor Magic V3 also handled substantial stress during our evaluation in August 2024.
While durability is not an issue for the Oppo Find N5, its availability poses a challenge. Currently, this foldable smartphone is only available in select Asia-Pacific nations.
