Tecno is enhancing its Universal Tone technology, which ensures accurate skin tone representation in photos. The updated version features an expanded multi-skin tone color card with 372 patches and refined algorithms for more realistic skin tones. The first devices to use this improved technology will be the Camon 40 series, debuting at MWC Barcelona in March. This enhancement aims to better serve diverse populations in regions like Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, potentially improving skin tone accuracy in portrait photos by over 50% across different lighting scenarios.
Universal Tone is Tecno’s exclusive technology designed to accurately represent individuals of all skin tones in photographs captured by its cameras. The company has now announced an enhancement to this feature with a broader color card. The first devices to showcase this enriched palette will be the Camon 40 series, which is expected to debut at MWC Barcelona in March.
This update features an upgraded multi-skin tone color card, now boasting 372 patches, along with upgrades to the system responsible for producing authentic skin tones in portrait photography.
Tecno emphasizes its goal to create “an even more inclusive and comprehensive database that represents a diverse range of global skin tones.”
This enhancement is anticipated to yield better results for individuals from regions such as Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, where Tecno actively operates.
Additionally, the upgrades to the Universal Tone technology encompass a refined skin tone reproduction algorithm and improved white balance accuracy.
This is expected to result, at least theoretically, in an overall improvement exceeding 50% in skin tone accuracy for portrait photography across various lighting conditions.
