NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) reacted strongly on Friday against the language employed by social media influencers and content creators, who made inappropriate remarks during the show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina.
During a video shared by news agency ANI, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar described the comments as “completely indecent” and unacceptable to both the public and the Commission.
“The vulgar language they used in the program is utterly improper. The Commission cannot condone this behavior. Such language is unacceptable to both the audience and the Commission. I vehemently denounce it. Recognizing its social implications, NCW acted immediately and issued them a notice,” Rahatkar remarked.
Following the notice, influencers Ranveer Allahbadia and Apoorva Mukhija, along with the show’s producers Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari, appeared before the Commission on Thursday. Legal representatives of comedian Jaspreet Singh and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani were also present. Sources informed PTI that Allahbadia and Mukhija faced extensive questioning regarding their statements.
“Upon their arrival yesterday, they expressed remorse for their remarks on the show. They acknowledged that such words should not be used and admitted their mistake,” Rahatkar added, noting that all of them apologized before the Commission and committed to being more cautious in the future.
“They stated that this would be the first and last time they made such comments. Ranveer Allahbadia and others recognized that their statements cannot be undone, but they will strive to be conscientious about their words and show respect for women,” she continued.
The controversy ignited when Allahbadia, commonly known as BeerBiceps, made a comment about parents and sex during the show, resulting in multiple police complaints.
The Supreme Court, while deliberating on the issue, labeled his remarks as “vulgar,” stating that they exhibited a “corrupt mindset” that has shamed society. Nonetheless, the court granted him temporary protection from arrest.
With the growing public outrage, the NCW’s prompt response highlights the increasing accountability of online content creators for their speech and conduct in the digital environment.
