Guwahati:

The Gauhati High Court granted anticipatory bail to YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani on Friday in relation to a case initiated by the city police due to public outrage regarding the ‘India’s Got Latent’ program. The high court had previously issued interim bail to Chanchlani on February 18.

“After reviewing the case diary, the high court approved anticipatory bail for the petitioner,” his attorney Joyraj Borah informed PTI.

Together with Borah, Chanchlani’s legal team, which includes Hiranya Kumar Nath, Apoorv Srivastava, and Avinash Lalwani, presented arguments stating that their client complied with prior directives from the HC by appearing before the investigating officer and cooperating in the investigation.

The bench led by Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita issued the anticipatory bail, making the interim relief permanent.

The FIR was filed by the city police on February 10, invoking various laws including the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhtia (BNS), IT Act, Cinematograph Act, and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

On February 27, Chanchlani was interrogated by the Guwahati Police for several hours.

Earlier in the day, the city police also questioned Ranveer Allahbadia, commonly known as BeerBiceps, in relation to the case.

In addition to Allahbadia and Chanchlani, others implicated in the case include comedians Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija. The owner of the location where the show was filmed has also been mentioned in the FIR.

Numerous FIRs were filed nationwide regarding controversial remarks made in the show about parents and sexuality.
