The girl approached the police on March 4, refusing to live with her husband in Devlai. She revealed that her grandparents arranged the marriage, and she has no parents. Authorities have filed charges against her family under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act and against her husband under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The case has now been transferred to Shevgaon police, where the marriage took place.

The relatives of a 14-year-old girl have been charged after she was married off to a 25-year-old man in the Ahilyanagar district of Maharashtra in January of this year, a police official reported on Thursday.
The marriage occurred on January 1 in Shevgaon, according to Chikalthana police station chief Ravikiran Darwade.
“She declined to live at her husband’s home in the Devlai area and sought help from the police on March 4. Her statement was taken with assistance from the state’s social justice department’s child welfare committee. She mentioned that she does not have parents and that her grandparents arranged her marriage to a 25-year-old man,” Darwade stated.
“We have filed charges against her relatives under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act and her husband under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The case has been moved to the Shevgaon police, as the marriage took place there,” he added.
