Moradabad, UP:
A 14-year-old Dalit girl has reportedly been kidnapped, tortured, and gang-raped multiple times in the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh, according to police. Officials stated on Wednesday that one suspect has been apprehended.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar Panchal of the Bhagatpur police station mentioned that based on a complaint from the victim’s family, “the accused supposedly burned an ‘Om’ tattoo on her hand using acid, forced her to consume meat, and inflicted further torture on her during her captivity.”
Four suspects—Salman, Zubair, Rashid, and Arif—have been charged under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, he stated.
The complainant stated that on January 2, 2025, her niece was taken while en route to a tailor, according to the officer.
The accused reportedly kidnapped her in a vehicle, using an intoxicant to render her unconscious, as detailed in the complaint.
The minor was subsequently held captive in a room where she was allegedly subjected to continuous gang rapes, the SHO explained.
Moreover, the suspects purportedly threatened to kill her and her family if she disclosed the incident to anyone, he noted.
“She was later transported to the Bhojpur area and confined in another room, from which she ultimately managed to escape and returned to her aunt a few days ago,” Panchal reported.
The girl’s family has expressed that the accused are intimidating them to withdraw the case, he added.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Kunwar Akash Singh has confirmed that a case has been officially filed at the Bhagatpur police station.
“One of the suspects, Salman, was arrested on Tuesday and has since been remanded to jail. The investigation is still underway,” he stated.
