Review of the Xiaomi SU7 Max: Interior, Design, and Features Insights

The Xiaomi SU7 Max is a luxury electric sedan positioned between the SU7 Ultra and SU7 Pro. It features a 101 kWh battery, offering AWD with 495 kW (673 hp) and a range of 497 miles. Striking an aggressive design with a spacious interior and practical cargo space, the SU7 Max is tailored for executives who enjoy spirited driving. It boasts premium materials and an advanced infotainment system with physical controls. Currently only available in China, the SU7 Max is priced at CNY 300,000. Xiaomi plans to begin global EV sales by 2027, increasing hopes for wider availability.

What is it?

This is the Xiaomi SU7 Max, positioned as the mid-tier option in Xiaomi’s SU7 series, standing between the Ultra and the rear-wheel-drive SU7 Pro.

The distinctions between the Ultra and Max are minimal – the Max boasts a larger 101 kWh battery (compared to the 93.7 kWh found in the Ultra), while the Ultra measures a bit longer – 199.6 inches vs 196.7 inches – and delivers significantly more power with its AWD producing 1138 kW (1548 hp) and 1770 Nm (1305 lb-ft) compared to the Max’s AWD output of 495 kW (673 hp) and 838 Nm (618 lb-ft).

While it may not match the Ultra, the Xiaomi SU7 Max is still a remarkably powerful vehicle. Few production cars can flaunt over 600 hp.

Who is it for?

The Xiaomi SU7 Max caters to high-level executives who enjoy a spirited driving experience. This car combines quality and refinement with performance that rivals supercars.

Xiaomi labels it as a C-class luxury technology sedan with proportions that embody the golden ratio. We especially admire the car’s low stance, which adds to its overall impact.

Aside from the Audi e-tron GT Performance, few sedans in its class can match the SU7 Max’s power figures. Let’s delve deeper into that.

What’s great about it?

To begin with, the aesthetics. The SU7 Max is stunning. Its aggressive, low-slung nose gives it a purposeful and fierce appearance.

The rear of the SU7 is almost fastback-like due to its sloping roofline. We admire the rear lights, which come together in a full-width light bar. The aerodynamic elements on the rear bumper contribute to its sporty look, enhanced by the rear diffuser.

There are prominent aerodynamic features on the sides as well, and we love the 20-inch wheels paired with 265-section Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires. Excellent design all around!

The SU7 Max is also highly practical, offering a total cargo space of 498 liters – 105 liters in the front and 493 liters in the rear.

Another aspect Xiaomi has nailed, which is often overlooked in modern cars, is the driving position. You can sit low in the SU7 Max, and since it’s not a tall SUV, it feels more planted and gives you a greater sense of control. Of course, you can raise the seat for improved visibility.

The steering wheel strikes a perfect balance of size and position. It’s chunky yet comfortable, with a slightly squared-off bottom that adds a sporty touch that we appreciate!

Regarding the seats, they are covered in perforated leather with ample bolstering in all the right areas, creating a stylish and comfortable cabin experience.

You won’t feel like you’re sitting too high, as the seat design angles slightly upward, elevating your feet while seated. It’s clear that Xiaomi invested considerable thought into the design.

Getting back to the steering wheel – it’s equipped with physical buttons for various controls, which we love. The drive selector button positioned in the lower right corner is particularly well-placed.

As we explore further down, we encounter the aircraft-style buttons for A/C temperature and fan speed, the active rear spoiler, and the air suspension control. There are also two generous cup holders.

The large center console display exudes high quality. Its sleek, uniform bezels contribute a level of sophistication lacking in some other EVs.

The rear of the SU7 Max is spacious. An optional rear tablet provides entertainment and can also control various car functions, such as air conditioning.

What’s not that good?

Currently, the Xiaomi SU7 Max is unavailable outside of China. That sums up the main drawback of the vehicle, #bitter.

Which version to get?

We would definitely consider saving CNY 45,000 and opting for the SU7 Pro instead of the Max (and the Ultra). The SU7 Pro delivers everything you need – featuring a 94.3 kWh battery with a CLTC range of 830 km. Its rear-wheel-drive 220 kW (299 hp) motor is more than adequate, achieving a 0 mph time of just 5.7 seconds. That’s the wisest choice.

However, if you aspire for the best of the best – go for the SU7 Max. Prices begin at CNY 300,000 (€39,000, £33,000, $42,000). Considering the impressive powertrain and luxury package, that’s quite reasonable. The SU7 Ultra, while outstanding on paper, comes with a heftier price tag of RMB 530,000 (€69,000, £57,000, $73,000).
