Teenager injured by gunfire near Lansdowne High School passes away at hospital

A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot near Lansdowne High School on March 4, 2025, while standing outside a liquor store. Baltimore County Police reported that the shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Hollins Ferry Road. After being shot initially, the suspect approached and fired multiple times at the victim, who then attempted to flee toward the school but collapsed. The shooter fled in a vehicle. The school activated lockdown protocols and canceled all after-school activities. Police urge anyone with information to contact them as investigations continue.

WE NOTICED THAT NEARBY MIDDLE AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ARE RELEASING STUDENTS AS USUAL. WE SAW KIDS OUTSIDE, BUT AS WE MOVE TOWARDS HOLLINS FERRY ROAD AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, THE RESTRICTIONS ARE SEVERE. HERE, BEHIND ME, IS AS CLOSE AS WE CAN GET. CRIME SCENE TAPE COVERS A LARGE PORTION OF THE SCHOOL’S FRONT. DOZENS OF DETECTIVES ARE ACTIVE IN THE AREA. A MESSAGE WAS SENT TO FAMILIES STATING: THIS IS FROM LANSDOWNE HIGH SCHOOL—”PARENTS AND GUARDIANS, THIS AFTERNOON AFTER DISMISSAL, WE RECEIVED REPORTS OF A SHOOTING AT THE SHOPPING CENTER ACROSS FROM LANSDOWNE HIGH SCHOOL. WE READIED OUR LOCKDOWN PROTOCOL AND CONTACTED BALTIMORE COUNTY POLICE. OFFICERS HAVE RESPONDED, AND WE WILL REMAIN IN LOCKDOWN UNTIL GIVEN FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS FROM POLICE. AT THE INTERSECTION OF THIRD AVENUE AND HOLLINS FERRY, THERE ARE AT LEAST A DOZEN POLICE VEHICLES, TURNING PEOPLE AWAY AND DECLARING THIS AREA OFF-LIMITS. WE’VE ENCOUNTERED DISTRAUGHT PARENTS SEEKING THEIR STUDENTS. THERE IS A REUNIFICATION AREA NEAR LANSDOWNE FOR PARENTS TO PICK UP THEIR KIDS. PARENTS CONTINUE TO ARRIVE, AND WE’RE DIRECTING THEM. ONE PARENT SHARED THAT HIS DAUGHTER HEARD THE GUNFIRE WHILE IN A DOLLAR STORE NEARBY AND THEY LOCKED THE DOOR UNTIL IT WAS SAFE. WE’RE STILL GATHERING DETAILS ON THIS INCIDENT. A 16-year-old boy was shot and subsequently died at the hospital after being approached while outside of a liquor store, according to officials. Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough confirmed that police were alerted to a shooting in the 3900 block of Hollins Ferry Road, near Lansdowne High School. After the initial gunfire, the suspect approached the victim and fired additional shots. The incident transpired near Kings Liquors, just off school property, but the victim made his way toward Lansdowne High School. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. In a post to X, formerly Twitter, police requested that parents pick up their children in the parking lot off Lansdowne Road.

A letter dispatched to parents and guardians of Lansdowne High School students included the following message:

“This afternoon after dismissal, we received reports of a shooting that occurred at the shopping center across the street from Lansdowne High School. We immediately activated our lockdown protocol and contacted Baltimore County police. Officers have responded, and we will remain in lockdown until we receive further instructions from BCoPD. All after school and evening activities at Lansdowne High School are canceled. We will provide updates as additional information becomes available.”
