Rohtak, Haryana:
Days after a woman Congress worker was murdered and her body discarded in a suitcase, a CCTV video has surfaced showing the suspect dragging the suitcase down an empty road.
The video captures a man in a face mask dragging the hard-shell black suitcase at around 10:16 PM in February.
The remains of Himani Narwal, who was in her late 20s, were discovered packed inside the suitcase near a bus stand in Rohtak, Haryana, on Saturday.
The suspect, Sachin, is thought to be a friend of the victim. He was apprehended today for the alleged murder of Narwal following a heated dispute on February 28. It is claimed that he strangled her with a mobile phone charger.
“There was a financial disagreement between them, but we need to confirm the details first. We cannot definitively state that this was the motive for the murder. The accused has mentioned that they had a confrontation, and during their argument, he ended up strangling her. Afterward, Sachin took her jewelry and laptop and rode her scooter to Jhajjar to conceal these items in his shop,” Additional DGP K K Rao informed reporters.
He returned to her residence shortly afterward, placed her body in the suitcase, and took an auto-rickshaw with the bag. According to Mr. Rao, he got off near the Sampla bus stand to obstruct the investigation, and once the auto-rickshaw departed, he disposed of the suitcase.
Narwal was cremated this evening. Earlier, her family had refused to proceed with the cremation until the perpetrator was apprehended.
Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda stated on Sunday that he had discussed the murder investigation with the Rohtak superintendent of police.
Congress MLA from Rohtak, BB Batra, described Himani as a “very good and active” worker who regularly participated in party events.
“Those responsible for this crime should face severe consequences,” Batra remarked.
