Tech Professional Bails on Interview After HR’s Ongoing Silence: “Apologies, But…”

Job seekers often feel “ghosted” by recruiters after applying or interviewing, leading to frustration. One tech professional decided to “ghost” a company after experiencing repeated dead ends despite successfully clearing multiple interviews and securing one offer. He shared his story on Reddit, highlighting the lack of communication from HRs post-interview, including no responses even after salary negotiations. He attempted to maintain contact for updates, but faced similar issues with another company that refused to discuss salary beforehand. His post resonated with many who shared similar experiences, emphasizing the negative impact of ghosting on applicants’ morale and perceptions of company culture.

Many job seekers express their frustration about being “ghosted” by recruiters after applying for positions or attending interviews. Tired of receiving repeated rejections, one tech professional chose to turn the tables and “ghost” a company instead.

“Today, I ghosted a company for the first time before my interview. This would be my first job switch, and I had gone through 7-8 interviews, with one offer in hand,” he shared in a Reddit post, detailing how he managed to pass all his interviews but was left waiting for any feedback.

“Every one of those HRs conducted my interview, told me I had passed, and then proceeded to ghost me after the first round. Some even vanished after salary negotiations. It was exhausting for me to continue interviewing only to be ignored by all these HRs. One HR actually informed me that they no longer had any requirements. The others didn’t even bother to reply,” he mentioned.

He also noted that he attempted to stay in touch to obtain updates on his application by frequently calling the HR and sending “follow-up emails,” urging them to inform him if he was still being considered for the role.

When another company reached out to him for an interview, he asked if they would be able to meet his salary expectations.

“I didn’t want to ghost this company after setting up the interview, but she insisted that I go through the interview process even after I asked if they could match my salary expectations. She simply said that I needed to complete the interview rounds first, and then they would see what they could offer. Unfortunately, I’m not willing to go through the same process again,” he explained.

The post resonated with many online who empathized with the applicant’s struggle.

“Yes, I’m experiencing the same issue. Whenever I give my all and think, ‘Oh, this round went so well, I’m sure I’ll get this job,’ only to be ghosted, all my hopes crash down along with the plans I made,” one user commented on Reddit.

“Ghosting candidates after an interview says a lot about the culture of an organization. As a former hiring manager, I always provided prompt feedback after interviews because it takes no more than five minutes to decide on the right fit for your team,” another user noted.

“Are these HR professionals even qualified to determine who would perform better in that role? They’re not. That’s the whole point of their job. They will never earn as much as a developer and will try to lowball us to boost their egos,” a third user remarked.
