New Delhi:

A man has been apprehended in relation to the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose remains were discovered in a suitcase on Saturday, sources indicated.

According to sources, her mobile phone and jewelry were also found in his possession.

The body of Narwal, reported to be in her late 20s, was located within a suitcase in Rohtak, prompting the Haryana Police to form a special investigation team (SIT) to delve into the murder.

The suspect, identified as a Bahadurgarh resident, was an acquaintance of Narwal, sources noted.

Congress MLA from Rohtak, BB Batra, remarked on Sunday that Narwal was a “very good and active” party worker who participated in various events, including the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi.

On Sunday, her family refused to have her body cremated until her assailants were brought to justice.

While speaking to reporters, her mother, Savita, suggested that certain leaders within the party were envious of her political ascent in a brief period.

“It could be anyone in the party who felt jealous about her advancement, or it might be someone else entirely,” she stated.

“The last conversation I had with her was on February 27. She mentioned that she would be engaged in a party event the following day, but later her phone was found turned off. Until my daughter receives justice, we will not proceed with her cremation,” she added.
