UP Woman Holds onto Cat’s Body for Two Days Before Taking Her Own Life

In Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, Pooja, a 32-year-old woman, tragically died by suicide after the death of her pet cat. Devastated, she kept the cat’s body beside her for two days, refusing to bury it despite her mother’s suggestions. Pooja, who had been living with her mother following a divorce, had adopted the cat to combat loneliness. On the third day, after her hopes diminished, she locked herself in her room. Later, her mother discovered Pooja hanging from a ceiling fan, with the deceased cat nearby. Police and a forensic team are investigating the incident.

Amroha:

A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district, heartbroken by the loss of her pet cat, kept its lifeless body beside her for two days, believing it might somehow revive. When reality struck, she took her own life on the third day.

Pooja, 32, lived in Hasanpur, Amroha. Eight years ago, she married a man from Delhi, but the marriage ended in divorce after two years, leading her to reside with her mother, Gajra Devi, in her childhood home.

To alleviate her solitude, Pooja adopted a pet cat, which sadly passed away on Thursday. When her mother suggested they bury the pet, Pooja refused, convinced it would “come back to life.” She held onto the cat’s body for two days, unwilling to part with it despite her family’s attempts to convince her otherwise.

On Saturday afternoon, Pooja locked herself in her third-floor bedroom. Around 8 PM that evening, Gajra Devi went to check on her daughter. To her shock, she discovered Pooja’s body hanging from the ceiling fan, with the deceased cat beside her. Her cries drew the attention of neighbors, who rushed to help and notified the police.

The police arrived quickly, and a forensic team began gathering evidence. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
