Playing 300 ODIs is a remarkable achievement, particularly as one-day cricket is less prevalent. Kohli’s impressive century against Pakistan showcases his readiness for upcoming challenges, further cementing his impactful career.

Virat Kohli is poised to mark his 300th ODI on Sunday, and New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips has expressed that the Indian batting legend’s “legacy” will endure throughout the years, “inspiring” future generations of cricketers. Kohli will become the seventh Indian to reach this milestone, joining the ranks of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, and Yuvraj Singh. “Undoubtedly, he’s an exceptional player. Knowing him personally is a privilege,” Phillips stated, recalling his time playing alongside Kohli at the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

“His work ethic is second to none, and his contributions to the sport, especially for Indian cricket and the new wave of young players, are remarkable,” he commented on Saturday, prior to New Zealand’s Champions Trophy match against India.

The Kiwi all-rounder mentioned that playing 300 ODIs in the current cricketing landscape, which has largely shifted towards T20 formats, is an extraordinary accomplishment.

“I believe his legacy will be cherished for a long time, motivating countless individuals. Achieving 300 ODIs is significant, especially in this era where one-day cricket is not as frequent as it once was. It’s a truly special achievement for him,” he remarked.

Phillips expressed hope that fellow senior player Kane Williamson would soon join Kohli in accumulating runs.

Kohli recently displayed his form with an outstanding century against Pakistan, while Williamson has yet to make his mark in the tournament.

“That’s a valid point. He (Williamson) had a remarkable score of 130 not out against South Africa in the recent tri-series, along with scores of 60 and just over 40, so I don’t see him having any issues,” he concluded.
