In preparation for the oath ceremony of Delhi’s new chief minister, Rekha Gupta, over 25,000 police and 15 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed at Ramlila Maidan. This event, set for Thursday, is expected to draw around 50,000 attendees, including Prime Minister Modi and other dignitaries. Significant security measures have been established, including heavy personnel presence at 2,500 strategic points, traffic management plans, and the implementation of AI-based facial recognition CCTV monitoring. Additionally, there will be barriers and emergency response teams in place to ensure safety during the ceremony, marking a new political chapter as the BJP regains power.
New Delhi:
Over 25,000 security personnel and more than 15 companies of paramilitary forces have been assigned to Delhi for the new chief minister’s oath ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday, according to a police officer.
Top party leaders, including chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, are expected to attend the ceremony.
“We have stationed over 25,000 police personnel and more than 15 companies of paramilitary forces,” the officer stated, noting that “robust” security measures are in place to ensure law and order.
“More than 5,000 police and paramilitary personnel are positioned in and around Ramlila Maidan. Approximately 2,500 critical points have been identified where significant deployments have already occurred,” he added.
Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, will be the new chief minister of Delhi, concluding 11 days of uncertainty regarding who would assume the top role following the BJP’s return to power after more than 26 years, thereby ending the decade-long rule of the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP.
Ms. Gupta (50) was appointed as Leader of the House during the BJP legislature party meeting late Wednesday, as announced by senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad.
Following this, Ms. Gupta met with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to claim her right to form the government.
Only authorized individuals will be permitted near the venue, and a comprehensive traffic plan has been developed, according to police officials.
To ensure the safety and security of dignitaries, multiple layers of barricades will be erected along with other emergency response teams.
Approximately 50,000 attendees, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Cabinet members, and chief ministers from National Democratic Alliance-ruled states, are anticipated at the ceremony.
The police have deployed commandos, quick response teams, PCR vans, and SWAT units at strategic locations, while snipers have been stationed at nearby high-rise buildings.
Every corner is being monitored using AI-powered facial recognition CCTV cameras, they added.
