Huawei has launched the Mate 70 Pro Premium Edition, scheduled for sale on March 5. Despite its name, this version features an underclocked Kirin 9020 chipset, leading to lower performance scores of 1,450 single-core and 3,793 multi-core, comparable to mid-range phones. The rest of the specifications, including a 6.9″ OLED display, 50 MP main camera, and 5,500 mAh battery with fast charging, remain unchanged. The Premium Edition offers multiple color choices and is priced between CNY 6,199 ($850) and CNY 7,699 ($1,050), but it is expected to be available only in China.
Huawei unveiled the Mate 70 Pro in November, featuring a Kirin 9020 chipset. Today, the company introduced a rather perplexing variant known as the Premium Edition, set to launch on March 5.
While the name implies an enhanced version, the truth is that it has a downclocked CPU and comes with a lower price point on the company’s Vmall store.
The product listing did not specify the chip downgrade – we discovered this detail in a separate Geekbench report. The Huawei Mate 70 Pro Premium Edition, bearing the model number PLR-AL50, achieved scores of 1,450 for single-core performance and 3,793 for multi-core. These results are quite mediocre and are comparable to the Infinix Zero 40 mid-range device.
Other specifications seem to remain unchanged, featuring a 6.9″ OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a triple camera setup with 50 MP main, 40 MP ultra-wide, and 48 MP macro telephoto lenses, as well as a 5,500 mAh battery with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging capabilities.

The Huawei Mate 70 Pro Premium is available in Green, Purple, White, or Black. It comes equipped with 12 GB of RAM and is offered in three storage variants – CNY6,199 ($850) for 256 GB, CNY6,699 ($920) for 512 GB, and CNY7,699 ($1,050) for the 1 TB model.
We don’t anticipate this device making its way outside of China.
