The police apprehended a man on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a teenage boy, which stemmed from a dispute regarding the delayed serving of chow mein at a stall in Jajpur district, Odisha.
The individual arrested, a local opposition BJD leader, has been placed in judicial custody.
Authorities reported that 14-year-old Santanu Das succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, following an assault that occurred on the night of February 9 near Gobindpur village in the Jajpur block.
Santanu’s father, Sukadev, residing in Gobindpur village, stated in his police report that he had visited Anil Kumar Mallik’s stall to order chow mein, but after waiting 30 minutes, his order was still not fulfilled.
When Sukadev inquired about the delay, he was purportedly assaulted by Mallik.
Santanu then arrived at the scene and confronted the stall owner about the attack on his father.
Local BJD leader Kamal Mallik, along with others, reportedly attacked the boy with iron rods, causing severe injuries.
Residents promptly transported the injured father and son to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital. However, due to worsening conditions, Santanu was later transferred to a private hospital in Cuttack, where he passed away on Sunday night, according to the police.
Kamal Mallik was apprehended in a hiding location within Jajpur, while the other suspects remain elusive.
