Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian pacer, returned to nets after over a month due to a back injury sustained during the Test series against Australia. His absence meant he missed the ongoing Champions Trophy, yet India reached the semi-finals, winning against Bangladesh and Pakistan. Bumrah shared his training progress on Instagram, prompting fans to express their hopes for his return in upcoming matches. Despite being named in the initial Champions Trophy squad, he couldn’t make the final roster. Recently, he celebrated multiple ICC awards, reflecting on his achievements. Bumrah is expected to return for the IPL starting March 22.
Star India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took to the nets for the first time in over a month. He has been sidelined due to a back injury sustained during the fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney. Consequently, Bumrah missed out on the ongoing Champions Trophy, having experienced back spasms as India faced a 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite his absence, India has made it to the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy, securing victories over Bangladesh and Pakistan in the first two matches.
Leading up to the semi-finals, Bumrah returned to the nets. “Progress every day,” he captioned a video on Instagram.
However, fans had a number of requests for India’s premier pacer.
“Semi final khel lo jassi,” a fan urged.
“Final me Jassi Bhai aa rahe haii,” another fan commented.
“Sabhi players me Darr ka mahol hai,” quipped another user.
“Bro is gearing up to destroy Eng in June,” yet another fan noted under the post.
Bumrah was initially included in India’s squad for the Champions Trophy, but he was unable to recover in time to be considered for the final 15-member traveling contingent.
Recently, Bumrah expressed his happiness after receiving the Men’s Cricketer Of The Year, Men’s Test Player Of The Year awards, and also being named in both the Men’s Test Team Of The Year and T20I Team Of The Year at the ICC Awards 2024.
“It feels really good. As a child, I’d watched some of my childhood heroes win this (Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy) award. It’s always a privilege to receive such an honor,” the 31-year-old pacer remarked after receiving his ICC Awards.
Bumrah added, “The T20 World Cup win is always going to be special and will remain in my thoughts. There have been many learnings throughout the year as we played a great deal of Test cricket, gaining various experiences, so yes, I’m very happy and hopefully, better things lie ahead.”
“I’m really happy for him (Shami). Obviously, he’s struggled with injuries for a long time. It takes a toll. However, he’s remained positive and upbeat. He looks good, and his skills are intact—those will never fade. The more he plays, the more confidence he will gain, and hopefully, he’ll help the team advance further,” Bumrah mentioned.
Bumrah is anticipated to make his return to action during the IPL, commencing March 22.
