Sonim has launched its first rugged phone with an integrated thermal camera, the XP Pro Thermal, designed for professionals in industries like home maintenance, automotive repair, and inspections. Building on the earlier XP Pro model, it features a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage (expandable via microSD), a 6.58” FHD+ display, and a 5,000mAh battery, running on Android 14. The key enhancement is the FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal camera, compatible with the Sonim IRIS app for various applications, from electrical assessments to agriculture. The phone meets rigorous durability standards and will be available for pre-order soon, with a release expected in Q2 2024.
For over a decade, Sonim has been creating rugged phones, and their latest model marks a significant milestone as it introduces an integrated thermal camera. This device is designed for professionals engaged in tasks like home maintenance, inspections, automotive repairs, and more.
The Sonim XP Pro Thermal enhances the previous XP Pro released a few months back. It still utilizes the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage, complete with a microSD card expansion option. The 6.58” FHD+ display remains unchanged and is shielded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, alongside a robust 5,000mAh battery. It’s noteworthy that the device launches with Android 14.
A major enhancement in this model is the FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal imaging camera. It works seamlessly with the Sonim IRIS app, building upon the MyFLIR Pro platform and is fully compatible with FLIR Thermal Studio. Additionally, a Sonim IRIS SDK is available, enabling custom applications to leverage the FLIR camera capabilities.
Utilizing the thermal camera, professionals can detect electrical issues such as overloaded circuits or malfunctioning transformers, evaluate home insulation, identify leaks behind walls, and more. Sonim claims that the XP Pro Thermal is ideal for various fields including electrical maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, inspection and safety, energy and utilities, automotive, construction, home improvement, agriculture, pest and rodent control, as well as for first responders.
